Mean Mia: Fury Rail
Mean Mia: Fury Rail is a train-based autobattling roguelite where you must build up and reinforce your train while battling against various factions while you're crossing the endless desert. Featuring the staple 3-way choice system, pick your wagons, weapons, upgrades and opponents while you attempt to fight through as many waves as possible!
Theme
The core mechanic of this game is the vehicular combat system. The weapons will autonomously try to blast enemies until none of them are left. The secondary mechanic that can be used for progression is the roguelite 3-way choice system in between waves, allowing you to expand and customize your fury train.
Controls
This game is playable with your mouse. The only keyboard controls are the escape menu. Simply click on one of the three-way choices to choose it. And in the train configuration screen you can navigate and modify using the buttons as well.
In the top-right is your inventory. You can click on a weapon to see more information, or you can hold and drag it to see if you can fit it on your train. You can use the arrow buttons to navigate to different cargo wagons, each with their own set of weapon options. While dragging, viable hardpoints will be highlighted in green, while invalid hardpoint candidates are red.
You can click on each hardpoint on the wagons to see more information, such as what can be mounted (both size and orientation) and any details on what is mounted. Once satisfied, you can continue your journey and the game will automatically fight.
Gameplay and tactics
When a wagon reaches 0 health, it is permanently destroyed and any cargo wagons behind it will also be lost. You can protect them by applying more armor via rewards, or by destroying enemies before they do too much damage. Health is repaired after each wave, but armor is not.
Your train speed impacts how enemies will spawn. If you have a very fast train, some enemies may choose to advance from the front of your train, as they can't keep up when coming from behind. Once you've advanced too far from them, they will be removed. Slow trains will generally have bigger guns and more armor, but are more susceptible to enemy attacks.
Enjoy!
This game was made for round 1 of GDKO2025. I focused mainly on the gameplay systems and some content to give the player some fun choices. All the in-world art is made by me, but I've borrowed some assets from Kenney for the UI and sound effects. The game isn't very balanced right now, as some weapons (and enemies!) are a lot stronger than others. How far can you get?
